Job Summary: The purpose of this position is to support two complex departments. One is Utilities, Energy & Sustainability, and the other is the multifaceted Environmental Health & Safety Department (EH&S). This position has extensive possibilities based on the candidate's interests and demonstrated abilities. The work will be a combination of office and fieldwork; strong Microsoft, particularly Excel, computer skills are a plus.

Job Duties:

Recurring monthly responsibilities, which may include:

  • Eye wash and safety drench shower testing
  • Automated Defibrillator (AED) inspection
  • Fire Extinguisher inspection
  • First Aid Kit restocking
  • Utility meter reading and reporting

There are also opportunities for work on projects, which may include:

  • Chemical inventories on campus, on the TSGB, and preparation of anticipated inventory for the Training Ship Golden State (TSGS)
  • Improve campus recycling program
  • And many more opportunities

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat is preferred but not mandatory. Ability to learn new programs and mobile apps.
  • Excellent problem solver with keen investigative skills.
  • Very well organized and able to track multiple projects.
  • Ability to develop documentation describing procedures.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with others while being a motivated self-starter requiring limited direction.

Integration:

Effective July 1, 2025, the California State University Maritime Academy integrated with California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, forming one academic institution operated as California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. All employment positions previously associated with California State University Maritime Academy have transitioned to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Employment continues to be governed by California State University policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements. As we integrate our human resources and administrative systems, some materials may still display legacy Cal Maritime branding and templates.
