Position Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager for Architectural Trades, the Painter performs journey-level work in the painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. 

This is a temporary 90 day position from June 17th - September 16th.

Department Summary

Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of five critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Environmental Health & Safety; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations. Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, and drywall.
  • Thorough knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
  • Ability to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately, mix paints and finishes, and match colors.
  • Ability to erect and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders.
  • Ability to select the most appropriate materials for the job.

Education and Experience

  • Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter’s apprenticeship program. 
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.  This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Supervisor certification for asbestos related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training as well as the ability to wear respiratory protection. 

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,076 - $6,519 per month

Classification Range: $6,076 - $7,766 per month
