Position Description

Job Summary

The Graphic Design and Marketing Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of standard administrative, technical and analytical duties related to day-to-day communications to promote marketing objectives for the Performing Arts Center. Under the general supervision of the Managing Director of the Performing Arts Center, with day-to-day lead work direction provided by the Lead Marketing Specialist this position will use both graphic design, video and production techniques to develop materials that reflect the established vision and messaging of the PAC. This position will create and update print and digital advertisements; implement marketing strategies and related plans to support the PAC and affiliated organizations; and consult with clients to ensure communication objectives are achieved.  The Graphic Design and Marketing Assistant will work in collaboration with their supervisor to coordinate and execute various graphic materials including print and digital advertisements, as well as digital signage, direct mail pieces and web/social content.  Assignments and projects are varied and often involve coordinating, prioritizing and monitoring graphic projects through completion and managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.  The Graphic Design and Marketing Assistant will prepare layouts and produce materials using skills and knowledge related to design, creation and display of both visual print and multimedia materials and make recommendations to enrich advertising and visual work based on current industry practices, technologies and trends.

Department Summary

The Performing Arts Center (PAC) is a multi-performance venue for a variety of events such as symphonies, choral concerts, contemporary and pop music events, plays and other theatrical events, dance programs, recitals, opera, touring shows, commencements, conferences and community productions. Other uses include receptions, workshops, business meetings, conventions, banquets, trade shows, recording sessions, church services, art exhibitions and weddings.  The PAC includes the 1286-seat Harold Miossi Hall within the Christopher Cohan Center, 250-seat Pavilion, 180-seat Philips Electronics Hall and the 500-seat Alex and Faye Spanos Theatre.

Key Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of artistic and graphic design and illustration, including the ability to design, layout and prepare finished artwork to develop a visual product.
  • Knowledge of typographic principles, page layout, image manipulation, color theory/psychology, tone, shading, harmony and perspective drawing, as well as the ability to explain rationale for design decisions.
  • Advanced skills in the utilization of specified computer graphic design programs, which may include Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, along with knowledge of other Adobe programs that may include, Premiere, Lightroom, Acrobat and After Effects.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS with skills in user interface and user experience design.
  • Working knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, University branding and graphics standards, and protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, graphic design, communications or a related field and one year of design experience.

Classification Range: $44,172.00 - $74,916.00
