Work Schedule

Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Friday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours. This is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2027, with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Business Career Services, this position provides a comprehensive set of outreach and support services for business students seeking internships and employment opportunities. The Employer Relations Associate is responsible for increasing employers’ awareness of business students through career fairs, events, on-campus visits, employer partnership development, job postings, internships, recruitment of students, etc. in order to increase student opportunities to engage with employers resulting in an increase in hiring of business students. Through outreach, leveraging corporate relationships, alumni and coordinated efforts with key internal partners (e.g., student organizations, University Career Center, Center for Internships, College Department Chairs and faculty, Development, and Centers of Excellence), the Employer Relations Associate provides student support through developing an extensive pipeline of quality employers for the purpose of student internships and job opportunities. The ideal candidate will have experience working both with students and with employer development, as well as conducting group presentations with audiences from five to three hundred in attendance. This position supports the online recruiting system, including approving job postings and employers for the purpose of student internships and employment opportunities. Educate and work with students on lessons learned from the employer community, including best practices on recruitment processes and specific employer requirements. This role will require primarily local travel to meet with employers, support student site visits, and attend relevant industry networking events. The Employer Relations Associate should be innovative, outgoing, eager to coordinate student and employer connections on behalf of Business Career Services and the College. Other duties as required.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited four-year university in management, education, human resources, counseling, or a related area is preferred. Related experience in higher education, career services, business development, and/or recruitment/human resources is desirable. Previous experience working with students and/or clients individually or in a group setting is required. At least two years of long-term customer relationship development experience is expected. General knowledge of community and higher education issues is preferred, along with familiarity with a campus environment or higher education setting. Knowledge of social media, marketing resources, or career resources, including LinkedIn, Constant Contact, Facebook, Instagram, Hootsuite, Handshake, VMock, Big Interview, and/or other related tools is valuable. Experience with event coordination is helpful. Knowledge of the Southern California employment market for business graduates is a plus.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver’s license.
