Job Summary
The Director of Admissions is a leadership position reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Admissions & Enrollment Management and serves as a key member of the Enrollment Services MPP team. The Director will inspire, motivate, and equip the staff with the vision, skills, and confidence to execute an ambitious enrollment agenda for CSULB. Leading the staff who successfully processes over 120,000 applications each academic year, this position shares a strategic vision for both technology and staff development. As a thought leader with in-depth knowledge of data mining in higher education to reveal admissions trends and research, this position along with the AVP is responsible for creating a long-term strategy that includes planning for a potential changing enrollment landscape.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning and Admissions Processing: Oversees the full range of admission and administrative processing for CSULB domestic undergraduate and graduate students. Develop strategic plans and implements policy for admissions to meet university enrollment goals. Works collaboratively with key campus stakeholders to ensure goals are properly aligned with strategic enrollment plan.
- Overall Management of Admissions Department: Serves as the administrator in charge of the Admissions department, which includes Imaging Data & Processing (IDP), Admissions CMS Systems, Transfer Admissions Evaluations, FTFY and Graduate Admissions Processing, Counseling, and Residency.
- Technology Development and Communications Enhancement: In collaboration with key campus stakeholders, provides leadership in developing and delivering high-quality communication and technological tools as well as excellent customer service standards. Details of a long-term strategy for how admissions will operate in the future based on national and local research trends. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
- Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $12,500 - $14,165 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of federal, state, CSU, and CSULB recruitment, admission, and transfer credit policies and practices, while maintaining deep awareness of the political climate and enrollment trends to assess their impact on campus enrollment and provide informed recommendations. They possess strong working knowledge of Enrollment Services policies and procedures, including Student Information Systems such as PeopleSoft, transfer credit articulation agreements, residency requirements, and imaging systems like OnBase. This individual excels at translating complex business processes into clear functional and technical requirements and is adept at performing advanced data analysis that produces reliable predictive modeling, supported by high proficiency in Excel, CRM platforms, and handling large data sets. They are skilled in directing complex tasks and multiple concurrent projects, negotiating effectively with diverse stakeholders, and leading, training, motivating, and retaining a talented and high-performing team. The candidate brings proven ability to develop, interpret, and apply academic and administrative policies, create and implement student-centered services, and deliver exceptional customer service rooted in dignity, respect, empathy, and professionalism. Additionally, they ensure operational continuity through thorough documentation of roles and responsibilities and uphold data integrity by adhering to approved processes and testing procedures to maintain high-quality, usable system data.

Education and Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience required in Admissions at a large institution comparable to size and scope of CSULB. Master’s degree preferred.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
