The Dean serves as the chief operating and academic officer of the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services and is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment where innovation and excellence is pursued by students, faculty, and staff. The Dean must demonstrate a clear and sustained commitment to supporting and strengthening student, faculty, and staff success.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach that promotes innovation in supporting the college’s departments and programs, creating new opportunities for teaching, learning, and research, and reaching new student audiences and become a visible leader in Los Angeles, across California, and beyond. The Dean will seek opportunities to forge strategic partnerships, new methods and approaches with corporations, foundations, and other philanthropic entities to secure financial support and partnerships that increase exciting and high-impact opportunities for students and faculty in the college.

In concert with the Provost, faculty, and other university administrators, the Dean participates in developing policy and strategic planning that improves the college, university, and greater community. To support the growth and success of the college, the Dean builds community partnerships, seeks broad-based support from external agencies, and plays a leadership role in fundraising and development. The successful candidate will be an experienced academic administrator with the vision, commitment, leadership skills, and integrity to achieve the ambitious goals championed in CSU Forward (https://www.calstate.edu/Strategic-Planning-for-the-CSU) – the new Strategic Plan of the California State University system - and prioritized in the campus strategic plan currently under development.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited university in a field represented in the college or a related field.
  • A record of effective teaching, scholarship, and service that warrants an appointment at the rank of tenured full professor within an academic unit of the college.
  • 3+ years of experience in academic leadership and administration.

Incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

California State University, Los Angeles, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer.   • A history of successfully leading and working collaboratively with faculty and staff through shared governance in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated success in developing innovative academic programs that proactively address evolving student priorities, interdisciplinary trends, and professional demands. 
  • Experience in promoting entrepreneurial efforts by developing programs that serve the community and students through continuing and professional education.
  • A clear understanding of leading-edge methods and instructional technologies that support teaching in a large, diverse urban public university.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting alumni relations and cultivating philanthropic, external funding, and development opportunities to advance the mission of the college and University.
  • Superior written and oral communication to advance the mission and vision of the college.

 

 

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $10,106 - $32,441/monthly. (Budgeted hiring salary range is $18,750 - $20,417 monthly). A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

 

Appointment:

The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University.  All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
