(Job #548272) Student Services Professional II, LSEE Fieldwork Coordinator, Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228; Hiring Range: $5,083 - $5,337. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Department of Education. Position Summary:
The LSEE Fieldwork Coordinator job objectives include participating in student recruitment, advising current and prospective credential candidates, coordinating the admission process, arranging fieldwork practicum and apprentice teaching placements, conducting and maintaining student field placements, and working with university fieldwork supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
Advising – 40%
- Plan, schedule, and conduct orientations and informational sessions for current, incoming, and prospective students to the LSEE major pathways. Assess and adapt services for programs to the needs of academically and culturally diverse students.
- Explain academic policies and procedures, and act as mentor and advocate.
- Plan, promote, and participate in activities to encourage advisees to be successful in their major. Help students build schedules and construct academic plans that will ensure their successful progress towards meeting their degree objectives Advise assigned students on academic probation to help them return to good academic standing Connect students with appropriate campus resources
- Assist LSEE majors and prospective majors with all manner of questions related to degree completion and career-related experiences, either through drop-in hours or by appointment
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of academic policies and procedures, withdrawal counseling, retention, and student success initiatives campus wide. Maintain records on students’ academic progress and persistence and conduct regular needs assessment of assigned students
- Assist students in identifying career and life planning issues and problems, which often entail complex and sensitive personal issues
- Select appropriate techniques and instruments to help students learn about themselves, their aptitudes, their abilities and how these relate to career/life planning
- Advise students on ways to explore occupational fields and to develop needed skills through classes or training programs
- Refer students to potential career-related internships and summer jobs to gain valuable experience in their field of choice
- Maintain LSEE program MAPs in consultation with Program Lead
Program Coordinator – 30%
- Conduct community outreach activities in the local region including local high schools and College of the Redwoods.
- Coordinate and participate in the application process for candidate admissions to the ITEP pathway Notify students of their admission status; advise and direct students through the appeals process.
- Monitor, verify, and record student completion of CCTC program prerequisites and credential requirements.
- Coordinate with the Registrar's office and credential analyst to submit credential packets for credential recommendations.
- Design and conduct orientations, trainings, and regular meetings for university fieldwork supervisors, current, and incoming students Provide guidance and support to supervisors in their work with student teachers and mentors Make sure all documents are distributed to university supervisors in a timely manner.
- Monitor supervisors to ensure paperwork is returned on time.
- Update students and supervisors on CCTC, HSU, and SOE program policies, regulation, and procedures. Review and revise forms and handbooks to accurately reflect current policies and procedures. Maintain student and credential candidate files Manage dent-related issues including conflict mediation and counseling credential candidates. Support the School of Education for program assessment and accreditation purposes.
Fieldwork Coordination
- Disseminate information regarding the credential programs and the field site placements.
- Design and conduct orientation meetings to help students prepare for the fieldwork placement.
- Arrange fieldwork and clinical practice placement for all elementary education programs in SOE; arrange alternate placements when necessary.
- Communicate with school districts, principals, mentor teachers, LSEE students and Multiple-Subject credential candidates regarding fieldwork and clinical practice placement.
- Manage student related issues including mediation related to fieldwork issues and assignments with support from Program Leader.
- Manage and track MOU status with local elementary school districts and maintains accurate records in the campus database, HS4U

- Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications regarding other program or service areas Services Office.
As related to the major responsibilities for this position:
- Knowledge and understanding of the California credentialing process, credential course and fieldwork and schools; excellent interpersonal skills; effective organizational skills; supervisory, teaching or training experience; counseling and or conflict management skills; excellent rapid touch-typing skills; strong word processing, writing and database usage skills; advanced technology skills; ability to work with diverse populations and attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.
Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree and two years of professional student services (or comparable) work. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Excellent interpersonal skills, effective organizational skills; supervisory, teaching or training experience; counseling and conflict management skills; and familiarity with public school’s operations.
