Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated hiring salary is $65,000 - $75,000 per year and is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President of Compliance and Civil Rights, the Prevention Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing preventive measures, training programs, and community engagement efforts across the campus. This role includes supporting campus compliance with Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, and ADA, and fostering a culture of respect, inclusivity, and proactive behavior among faculty, staff, and students. The Prevention Specialist will engage constructively to promote positive behavior and address any issues, aligning actions with university policies and community standards.
The Prevention Specialist’s responsibilities emphasize non-disciplinary, proactive engagement with campus constituents and involve guiding and redirecting behavior when necessary. Additionally, this role includes leadership responsibilities for the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and the Culture, Belonging, and Prevention Team (CBPT) , where the Prevention Specialist will set agendas, manage follow-ups, and work closely with co-chairs.
Key Qualifications
- Understanding of Compliance Regulations: Proven ability to comprehend and apply concepts related to Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, ADA, and other federal and state laws governing discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and accessibility in higher education or similar organizational settings.
- Familiarity with Prevention Strategies: Awareness of best practices for developing and implementing prevention and intervention programs, especially in areas of discrimination, harassment, and inclusivity.
- Behavioral Intervention and Conflict Resolution: Foundational knowledge of techniques for addressing and redirecting behaviors constructively, along with strategies for non-disciplinary engagement in diverse settings.
- Cultural Competence and Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively within a diverse campus community, understanding the importance of inclusive approaches in policy communication, training, and engagement efforts.
- Program Development and Assessment: Understanding of program planning, including how to measure and assess the effectiveness of prevention initiatives and make data-driven improvements.
- Training and Facilitation Techniques: Knowledge of effective adult learning and training strategies to engage faculty, staff, and students in compliance and preventive measures.
- Computer Office Systems: Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications).

- Program Development and Facilitation Skills: Competence in designing, implementing, and assessing training programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns that meet the needs of various campus audiences.
- Behavioral Intervention and Conflict Resolution: Proficiency in addressing problematic behaviors constructively, using non-punitive methods to redirect actions and encourage positive change.
- Detail-Oriented: Ability to complete all tasks with precision, ensuring accuracy and consistency across documentation and program initiatives.
- Policy Interpretation and Application: Ability to interpret, develop, and apply policies effectively, ensuring that programs and communications align with institutional and legal requirements.
- Cultural Competence and Sensitivity: A demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and respect, with the ability to approach situations with cultural awareness and sensitivity to individual differences.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Public Health, Criminal Justice, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related fields.
- At least three years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Addressing problematic behaviors and fostering positive cultural change.
- Conducting risk assessments, crisis intervention, or restorative practices.
- Developing and implementing behavioral modification techniques or compliance strategies.
- Experience with designing and delivering training programs, engaging in community outreach, and/or implementing prevention initiatives focused on prevention or behavioral intervention.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Education: A master's degree in education, social work, public health, human resources, or a related field.
- Professional Certification: Certification in prevention programs demonstrating expertise in prevention strategies and program implementation.
- Experience in a Complex Organization: Demonstrated experience navigating and contributing within complex organizational environments, including collaborating across multiple departments or stakeholders.
- Specialized Training: Completion of training programs focused on Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, ADA compliance, or related areas, indicating a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Familiarity with Campus Resources: Knowledge of local community resources and networks, facilitating effective collaboration and support for campus initiatives.
- Experience with Data Analysis and Program Evaluation: Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement efforts.
