Major Duties
Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Health and Wellness and the Deputy Director of Athletics, the Sports Nutrition Education Assistant supports the nutritional health program of CSUN's Division I student-athletes. The incumbent assists in the planning, designing, implementing, and evaluation of the nutrition programs to enhance athletic performance, recovery, and overall health by researching, developing, and maintaining health education materials; and planning and conducting educational programs and workshops.
- Works closely with Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, and coaching staff to assist with the development of comprehensive nutrition guidelines and services across all athletic teams.
- Tracks and maintains student records; and provides various administrative services to assist in the nutritional needs of student-athletes.
- Supports the creation and maintenance of basic nutrition materials to meet the general health needs of athletes, considering their training and competition schedules.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field; HIPPA certification is preferred.
- Experience managing fueling stations in athletic settings; 1-2 years of experience in sports nutrition, preferably in a collegiate or professional sports setting are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- General knowledge of the techniques for collecting and compiling data, and the means of disseminating educational information to the public through various mass and audio or visual media; working knowledge of the elements of health education programming.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to individuals with various interests and from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds; prepare and deliver informational talks or lead group discussions using visual and other aids and provide clear, understandable answers to questions that are raised by target group audiences; conduct interviews or group discussions to obtain data on health habits and needs, observe reactions to questions, and record or summarize findings; conduct research using a variety of sources to develop and prepare educational materials; draft simple staff reports and articles for publication in newsletters and bulletins; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, target segments of the student community and representatives of the news media; ability to meet deadlines and maintain detailed records.
- Familiarity with NCAA regulations and compliance, particularly in the area of nutrition and supplementation; and a general understanding of sports nutrition principles is desirable.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- Classification: Health Education Assistant / 8145 / 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4369 - $4888 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4369 - $8430 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; flexible schedule, may include evenings and weekends and travel with athletic teams for away games and events.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
