The School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement (PACE) at San Francisco State University invites applications for part-time lecturer positions (non-tenure track) in Gerontology, Public Administration, and Urban Studies and Planning, for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 terms.
The School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement (PACE) is a collaborative interdisciplinary unit of public affairs-oriented scholars that delivers degree programs in Gerontology, Public Administration, and Urban Studies and Planning. Students in these programs are immersed in a problem-oriented learning environment that extends beyond the classroom and into the community, the public arena, and the world.
The MA in Gerontology is designed to: 1), emphasize the broad, interdisciplinary nature of issues that relate to and influence older adults; 2), provide students with the academic expertise, professional experience, and research capabilities necessary to pursue advanced study at the doctoral and professional level; 3), prepare students for professional practice and leadership positions in the public and private sectors where gerontological knowledge is required; 4) empower students with a vision of diversity, social justice, consumer-driven services and global issues to promote intergenerational understanding; and 5) invest in students a working knowledge of theoretical foundations and prepare students with tools to use quantitative and qualitative methods in applied research for solving a variety of practical problems in the community and link the micro and macro aspects of aging.
The SF State Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program offers students the opportunity to earn their MPA by taking a mix of in-person and hybrid courses in the heart of downtown San Francisco. The MPA Program is nationally accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, & Administration (NASPAA). Public Administration courses are taught using effective, high-impact practices (HIPs) like collaborative assignments, community-based learning, and capstone experiences.
The Urban Studies & Planning offers an interdisciplinary curriculum in urban planning and policy and reflects a social science education with an applied, problem-solving focus, training in research methods, and practical hands-on experience in a carefully supervised internship and a practicum (senior seminar). Core courses integrate social science, planning, and policy perspectives into the study of cities; develop the research and analytic tools necessary for urban planning and policy analysis; and offer hands-on applied research experience. Elective courses are designed to apply the basic core course content to urban planning and policy areas of interest.
