Position Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager for Mechanical Trades, the Plumber performs the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems.

Department Summary

Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects (FPCP); and Facilities Operations. Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade including a general knowledge of the operation of building automation systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trades, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes.
  • Ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems, including applicable welding work.
  • Ability to obtain necessary backflow prevention licenses.
  • Ability to make rough sketches of plumbing installations, and read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications.

Education and Experience

  • Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber’s apprenticeship program. 

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $74,888 - $89,484 per year

Classification Range: $71,976 - $104,844 per year
