The Experience Industry Management Department (EIM) in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a full-time academic year lecturer in event planning and experience management for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years starting January 8, 2024 and ending June 16, 2025.

Primary teaching and service responsibilities will include: Experiential Marketing, Strategic Event Planning,  Strategic Event Implementation, and leading a group of students to design and execute the annual EIM Auction and Dinner. Additional courses across the curriculum may be assigned based on student demand and the applicants’ qualifications and interests.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056
Lecturer B: $5,405-$11,994
Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in event planning/management, marketing, organizational communication, or closely related field.
  • Evidence of progressive professional experience in the event planning and experience management field.
  • Excellent and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interest in undergraduate teaching.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ability to collaborate with faculty across the College and University is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in event planning and experience management as well as the ability to teach broadly across the curriculum. Preference will be given to those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience who bring professional capabilities and those with the ability to build connections with industry and foster new relationships.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The EIM Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences offers a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration. An M.S. in Agriculture with a specialization in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Management is currently not accepting applicants. The Experience Industry Management department, accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions offers areas of study in Tourism, Hospitality and Destination Management, Event Planning and Experience Management, and Sport and Recreation Management. The Experience Industry Management department's vision is to cultivate leaders and innovators in industries that promote healthy lifestyles, protect memorable places, and facilitate life-enhancing experiences for individuals, communities, and the global society. The department’s Experience Innovation Lab in the new William and Linda Frost Center For Research & Innovation opens officially in Fall 2023.
