Assistant Professor - Dynamic Systems
The Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, (Cal Poly) invites qualified applications to apply for two fulltime, academic year, tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of dynamic systems. This is an opportunity for candidates who are passionate about undergraduate education to join a unique institution that values teaching and applied research activities through a “Learn by Doing” approach. Preferred specializations include autonomous systems, electric vehicles, vehicle dynamics and control, robotics, artificial intelligence/intelligent systems, machine learning, and other applications of data analytics in dynamic systems and control. Primary teaching assignments will be in dynamics, vibrations, controls, mechatronics and other foundational and advanced mechanics courses. Starting Date is September 12, 2022.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field in the general area of Dynamic Systems and are expected to demonstrate a commitment to, or potential for, teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. Cal Poly is committed to the teacher-scholar model. As teachers, all faculty members are expected to exhibit strong pedagogic skills and to remain proficient and current in their disciplines. As scholars, faculty members are expected to maintain competency in the field and enhance the vitality of our programs through undergraduate and masters level research. As colleagues, it is expected that every faculty member performs service activities at all levels of the University. An ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administration from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds is essential. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
Preference will also be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in university level teaching and research, experience with laboratory-based instruction, industrial experience, and willingness to teach in multiple areas of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The candidate is expected to be driven with a passion for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as be engaged in scholarship. Prior engineering industry experience and professional licensure is preferable, but not required.
