Position Description

Job Summary

In this position, you will provide excellent customer service in support of improving and maintaining our enterprise Business Intelligence platform.You will play an important role bridging the gap between technical transformations in the data warehouse and functional use of the data around campus. Expect to dig into code, construct dashboards, and interface with customers daily.

Department Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) enables the success of students, faculty, and staff in learning, teaching, and conducting research by providing great services and innovative information technology solutions to the campus.  Our team of more than 100 professionals works in a highly collaborative environment, using Agile methods and Lean principles to shape the systems and technology landscape at Cal Poly.  As part of our vibrant campus culture, members of ITS work with Cal Poly employees and students to undertake impactful, cutting-edge projects and provide day-to-day support to our customers.  ITS values professional development and provides individual and organization-wide education, development, and training opportunities for our employees.

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill building solutions with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Demonstrated skill manipulating and shaping data for enterprise data sources or advanced analytical modelling.
  • Demonstrated skill using databases/query languages to store, manipulate, and retrieve data (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or Aurora).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with technical and non-technical staff to identify user requirements and translate them into technology-based solutions.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive and professional working relationships; ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of required education on a year-for-year basis).


Anticipated Hiring Range: $85,000 - $110,000 per year

Classification Range: $52,464 - $129,504 per year

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
