Assistant Professor of Transportation Engineering
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Transportation Engineering with special emphasis in sustainable transportation systems. Candidates with diverse research interests are encouraged to apply by demonstrating how their research supports planning, design, and operation of sustainable transportation systems. The position is available starting Fall 2020.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) teaching undergraduate classes and laboratories in civil engineering in general, and transportation engineering in particular, as well as graduate courses in area of specialization; (b) supervising undergraduate and graduate-level research; (c) developing and maintaining externally-funded research programs; (d) engaging in activities related to service in the form of student club advising, curriculum development, and shared governance.

Candidates for the position are required to have earned undergraduate and doctorate degrees in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by time of appointment. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
Experience in transportation planning/engineering, supported by a record of scholarly publications, is preferred. Professional registration, LEED certification, and industry/consulting experience are desirable. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has two separate B.S. degree programs with approximately 650 undergraduate students in the Civil Engineering Program and 200 in the Environmental Engineering Program. Both programs are ABET accredited. The Department also offers an M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with approximately 60 active graduate students. The number of graduate students also includes those pursuing the Dual MCRP/MS Transportation degree, a unique interdisciplinary program shared by CE/ENVE and City and Regional Planning (CRP) Department in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. The Department’s undergraduate programs are consistently rated as among the best in the U.S. for non-Ph.D. granting institutions, and the department proudly supports extremely active and highly regarded student chapters of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and Engineers without Borders. Department faculty have been successful in securing research funding from state agencies, UTC consortia and federal agencies including NSF.
