Position Description

Job Summary

The Emergency Services and Business Continuity Manager reports to the Director of Emergency Management who is responsible for the operations and oversight of the Emergency Management Program, campus Business Continuity Program, the Emergency Operations Center, and acts as the EOC Director in emergency/disaster situations.

Department Summary

The Department of Emergency Management is a Department under Public Safety at Cal Poly. We provide both emergency management and business continuity services to the campus community, including emergency planning, preparedness training, and hazard awareness.

Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of emergency management, NIMS, and SEMS.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in emergency management, fire management, public administration, or a related field and least three (3) years of technical level experience in an organization performing emergency management, disaster planning, and/or response, which has provided knowledge of emergency management concepts, terminology, and basic procedures.

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
