Position Description

Job Summary

Administrative Support Assistants will provide intermittent and short term coverage for departments and centers affiliated with the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM).  Responsibilities involve but are not limited to reception, events, clerical and administrative support for faculty, administrators, students and staff, and special projects.  These employees will enjoy a variety of work experience across different departments over the course of their assignment.

College Summary

The College of Science and Mathematics contains seven departments; Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Kinesiology and Public Health, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, the School of Education, and five centers and institutes: Center for Applications in Biotechnology  (CAB), Western Coatings Technology Center (WCTC), Center for Coastal Marine Science (CCMS), Science Through Translational Research in Diet and Exercise (STRIDE), and the Center for Engineering, Science and Math Education (CESAME).  In addition, the college has an advancement team, advising center, credential office and a computing support services team.  The college employs approximately 350 full- and part-time faculty, 45 teaching associates, and 67 staff and administrative employees.  There are approximately 3,100 students affiliated with seven departments spanning 11 different Bachelor of Science degrees, and the School of Education offers a full range of options from post-baccalaureate teaching credentials through advanced credentials and master’s degrees.

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet, online calendaring and email.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Three (3) years of general office support experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience.)

Salary:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $2600 - $3400 ($15.00/hour - $19.62/hour)

Classification Range: $2600 - $4458
